Your South Florida Trusted Pros for Mexican Tile Services. There are many times when stripping the existing sealer from the tile is required. There may be dirt and stains sealed into the floor. There may be multiple layers of oil based sealer which has darkened or “ambered” over the years. The existing sealer might be peeling up in areas. Or, efflorescence may be coming through the tile and staining the surface.

A successful strip of Mexican tile can happen only if all of the old sealer is removed. Stripping must be done through a chemical process, with no sanding or abrasion. It is dust free. Since Mexican tile is a natural clay, a sanding process would gouge and pit the tile, ruining it. Our stripper is a very strong and effective chemical stripper. We must open the house and ventilate with fans.

The stripping process is always done on hands and knees, applying the stripper with nylon brushes, then scrubbing to break down the existing sealer. We then remove the liquefied sealer and hand clean the tile with wiping cloths and solvent, which evaporates quickly. After the floor has been stripped, we do a final strip and clean with the solvent and clean wiping cloths. This will remove any residue of old sealer left on the tile and bring the tile and grout to an almost original condition.

We then reseal the floor to protect it and enhance the clay’s natural colors. As in cleaning and sealing, the amount of sealer applied depends on the level of shine desired and the type of sealer used.
